Calgary game developers to play central role in Global Game Jam

Global Game Jam gives Calgary developers, students and hobbyists a direct connection to one of the world’s largest collaborative game-development events. The Calgary Game Developers Association hosts the local 48-hour jam at Platform Calgary, bringing together participants ranging from Bow Valley College students to independent developers and people with experience at larger studios. The event contributes to Alberta’s developer pipeline by giving newer creators practical experience building games in teams while allowing established developers to experiment with ideas outside normal production environments. Calgary participates alongside other Canadian host cities, including Edmonton, Montreal and Toronto, connecting Alberta’s local development community to a broader international event. Previous game-jam prototypes have also developed into commercial projects, making these events useful not only for education and networking but as potential starting points for new Alberta-made games.
