BioWare stalks gamers with Anthem design at Edmonton Corn Maze

Why this matters to Alberta game development
BioWare’s partnership with the Edmonton Corn Maze connected the studio’s internationally promoted new intellectual property, Anthem, directly with its Edmonton home. Following Anthem’s reveal at E3 2017, BioWare transformed a local corn maze into a large-scale design featuring the studio’s logo and one of the game’s Javelin exosuits.
The promotion is significant to Alberta game-development history because it shows BioWare deliberately pairing the global marketing of a major Electronic Arts release with its local identity. Then-general manager Aaryn Flynn described the maze as a way to follow Anthem’s Los Angeles debut with something specifically for the Edmonton community. The project also provided a highly visible local representation of a major game being developed in Alberta, reinforcing the connection between BioWare’s international profile and the city where the studio was founded.
