Baby Ghosts Alberta creates new accelerator to give marginalized developers a leg up

Baby Ghosts Alberta adds a new accelerator specifically for independent game studios across the province. Led by Interactive Arts Alberta and the Walkthrough Collaborative Centre in partnership with Toronto’s Baby Ghosts program, the six-month initiative will provide participating teams with mentorship, peer learning and a $25,000 stipend, allowing developers to focus on both their games and the long-term sustainability of their studios. The program is particularly focused on marginalized developers, worker-centred practices and helping founders retain ownership of their intellectual property rather than treating acquisition as the primary path to success. Funding comes primarily from the Canada Media Fund’s Changing Narratives Fund, with additional support from Alberta’s Northern and Regional Economic Development Program. Based partly at Edmonton’s Walkthrough space but open to studios throughout Alberta, Baby Ghosts Alberta expands the province’s network of programs supporting independent developers alongside initiatives from Edmonton Screen, Scaffold Institute and GameCamp Edmonton.
