Artificial Agency wins at YEG Startup Community Awards

Edmonton-based Artificial Agency being named Most Edmonton Startup of the Year gives local recognition to a company developing technology specifically for the global video game industry. The company is building an artificial intelligence behaviour engine intended to help game developers create characters and other systems that operate as individualized AI agents with their own perceptions, actions, personalities and goals. Artificial Agency had previously raised US$16 million to develop the technology, making it a notable intersection between Edmonton’s artificial intelligence expertise and its established game-development sector. Rather than producing games directly, the company is building middleware that could be used by developers internationally. Its recognition within Edmonton’s broader startup community demonstrates that game-development technology can contribute to Alberta’s technology sector alongside locally produced games and traditional studios.
