'Amazing honour': Edmonton BioWare founders receive Order of Canada

BioWare co-founders Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk being appointed Members of the Order of Canada represents national recognition of Edmonton’s contribution to the global video game industry. The two physicians co-founded BioWare in Edmonton in 1995 and helped build it into an internationally recognized role-playing game developer responsible for franchises including Baldur’s Gate, Mass Effect, Dragon Age and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. The recognition is particularly significant for Alberta because their appointments specifically cite their contributions to the video game industry and the creation of an internationally renowned studio. BioWare demonstrated that a globally successful game company could be built in Edmonton, forming a foundation of experienced developers and industry expertise that has influenced Alberta’s game-development community for decades.
