Why this matters to Alberta game development

The Alberta Games Series brought developers, publishers, investors and industry professionals together in Calgary, providing local studios and emerging developers with access to expertise normally concentrated at larger international conferences. Programming covered publishing, investment, pitching, community building and development practices, with speakers from companies including Devolver Digital, Noodlecake and Firestoke Games. The conference also demonstrated province-wide coordination within Alberta’s game-development community. Organizers and supporters included Digital Alberta, Calgary Economic Development, Edmonton Screen Industries Office, Calgary Game Developers Association, Game Camp Edmonton and the Lethbridge Game Developers Guild, alongside post-secondary involvement from Bow Valley College, SAIT and NAIT. By connecting students and independent developers with experienced professionals, publishers and potential investors, the event addressed both workforce development and commercialization while strengthening relationships between Alberta’s regional game-development communities.
