The Entertainment Software Association of Canada (ESAC) has recently launched its 2021 Canadian Video Game Industry Economic Impact survey. This detailed, biannual study is seen by many in the IDM sector as the bellwether report on the video game industry in Canada.

In 2019, the report identified 692 active video game companies in Canada, a 16% increase from 2017. These companies generated an estimated $3.6 billion in revenue from all sources — a 15% growth since 2017 — and employed an estimated 48,000 full-time equivalent employees.

The data and insights generated in the 2019 report greatly informed Digital Alberta’s advocacy efforts here in the province. With more IDM companies working in Alberta than ever before, we are eager to see how these numbers have changed in our province in the last two years. We therefore *strongly* encourage all game developers in the province to participate in the 2021 survey before the June 19 deadline. This is your opportunity to amplify the economic impact your company is driving in Alberta!
